A quiet day at the Western front meant we had time to test out another restaurant in our local area. This time we had lunch at the Hillside Winery & Bistro in Penticton. The upstairs outside patio was a delightful place to spend a lazy afternoon. The sun was not too hot and there was a little breeze off the lake. George sampled a flight of their red wines (his favorite was the Syrah) while I had a Duke’s cider (delicious!). We ordered a number of appies to try their selection and we were not disappointed: rosemary bread (from Terra Breads in Vancouver!) with hummus; cashew “cheese” with apricot honey; prawn risotto; spicy carrot soup. We did notice a number of patrons asked if bread was included with certain orders and it was not. We had asked the same thing. Seems bread is not a gratis accompaniment anymore. Too bad. But that was the worst part of our experience… so we were not overly concerned. The noise level got a little high when a wine touring busload arrived but that happened at the same time we were leaving so, all in all, it was a good experience and we will recommend this place to our guests.
